{"id":880,"date":"2018-02-02T11:01:25","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T19:01:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/learning-exchange\/pro-bowl-2018\/"},"modified":"2018-02-02T14:10:45","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T22:10:45","slug":"pro-bowl-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/learning-exchange\/pro-bowl-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"ThisGen Youth Leaders Meet at Pro Bowl 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post : ThisGEN Doing the Work \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This past Saturday at the N<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ational Football League\u2019s Pro Bowl Weekend, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raliance.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raliance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breakthecycle.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Break the Cycle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gathered over 20youth from the Orlando area to explore how sport can be a platform to end gender based violence. Building off the success of Ra<\/span>liance\u2019s 2017 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raliance.org\/youthsummit\/\">ThisGEN Youth Summit<\/a>, this event focused on developing youth leadership<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-881 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3316-e1517595870238-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3316-e1517595870238-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3316-e1517595870238-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3316-e1517595870238-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/>\u00a0and voices to directly impact their communities. PeerLeaders from the ThisGen Youth Summit shared how\u00a0they had returned to their schools, created clubs\u00a0and organized their peers. \u201dI created an organization called Evolution44 to focus on gender inequality, dating violence and bullying,\u201d described Melissa\u00a0Ruiz from Florida, \u201c We had a 100 people join our group and 70 show up for our first meeting, it was amazing.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elise Morris talked about the lessons she learned when bringing peers together in Seattle, Washington. \u201c We learned that there were people&#8217;s voices we were leaving out as our organization grew, so we collaborated with other groups \u00a0to make our message stronger and inclusive when talking to the school and administrators.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Pro Bowl as a backdrop, young people were excited, motivated, ready to engage and lead their communities in cultivating a world that<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0is inclusive and free from violence. Each youth wore a teeshirt stating \u201cThis Gen WIll End Gender Based Violence.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I<\/span>n addition to youth leaders, other speakers reinforced this theme. \u00a0Peter O\u2019Reilly, Senior Vice President, Events, of the National Football League highlighted that \u201cYouth can rapidly amplify the voice of change and they are doing it through social media in a positive way.\u201d<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-882 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3306-e1517597541430-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3306-e1517597541430-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3306-e1517597541430-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_3306-e1517597541430-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raliance recently\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">released the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raliance.org\/sport-prevention\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sport + Prevention Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that identifies sport as a key component to ending gender based violence in one generation due to the influence that sport has in developing young people and shaping the culture of our country.
