South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Columbia, SC enhanced their existing PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) program to improve services for incarcerated survivors of sexual assault in four federal prisons, 52 detention centers and jails, and 24 state Department of Corrections Institutions.

    11 (out of the 15) rape crisis centers in South Carolina have signed one or more MOUs with their neighboring corrections agencies. Additional centers are in-process of developing MOUs at the conclusion of this grant cycle.

    SCCADVASA convened 81 corrections staff and rape crisis advocates on 9/27/16 for PREA Conference.

    SCCADVASA trained a total of 224 people via 2 all-day trainings, a PREA conference, and 3 PREA webinars.

    SCCADVASA provided technical assistance on 28 occasions to assist providers inside and outside of SC to increase their capacity to adequately serve. SCCADVASA made referrals and informational assistance to incarcerated survivors on 6 occasions.

    SCCADVASA reprinted 300 copies of the SC PREA Manual to distribute as part of this initiative. Two new PREA brochures were created. One is for service providers with information about PREA and how to support incarcerated survivors and another for incarcerated survivors with information on sexual assault and self-care tools.
