Over the years, we have used our “RALIANCE Watching” series to amplify films and TV shows we felt were useful to our audience to learn more about the many dimensions of sexual violence. Some of the media we’ve shared is, admittedly, a time commitment, which is why this week we thought we’d share some of our favorite YouTube videos! All of these videos are freely available online and may serve to elevate your trainings and ongoing conversations about workplace sexual harassment.
“Domestic Violence and Abuse in the Workplace | HR Daily’s Honest HR”
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) uploaded a recording of their podcast about the intersection of domestic abuse and the workplace. “For Domestic Violence Awareness month,” SHRM says, “Host Wendy Fong sits down with Carmen Aliber, Director of HR at Dexter Southfield, to discuss how domestic violence and abuse can affect both employees and employers. Carmen defines abuse, dispels misconceptions, and offers insights and strategies as to how HR professionals can prevent, identify, and address domestic violence and abuse in the workplace.”
“How To Recognize, Address, and Prevent Workplace Harassment”
Created by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC’s) Office of Federal Operations (OFO), this video is a great starting place to get a basic rundown on harassment and how to prevent and report it.
“Sexual Violence and the Workplace: Making the Connections”
This list would be incomplete without a video coming straight from the sexual violence prevention field. The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) says that, “In this recorded webinar, experts talk about their experiences preventing and responding to sexual violence in the workplace and engaging employers as partners in these efforts. The webinar also introduces the Sexual Violence and the Workplace information packet developed by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC).”
“That’s Harassment” Playlist
Sometimes, it’s useful for viewers to learn about sexual harassment through fictionalized depictions. Organized by the “That’s Harassment” campaign, a series of short films executive produced by David Schwimmer, “depict various cases of sexual harassment, all based on real events. The films drive viewers to RAINN, which is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, and offer support and information at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) and RAINN.org/ThatsHarassment.
The filmmakers also worked to provide supplementary materials to continue the conversation. “Separately, in partnership with National Women’s Law Center, the filmmakers created a digital toolkit for employers and are inviting them (including C-suite executives, HR directors, supervisors and managers) to use these films to educate, inform and ensure they are creating safe work environments for their employees. The toolkit can be downloaded at NWLC.org/ThatsHarassment.”
We are so grateful to all of the above organizations that provided these educational videos for free on YouTube. In the future, we hope to see educational videos become even more accessible as we continue and evolve our conversations about sexual harassment and workplace safety.
